CAROLINA FOREST ____________________________________________________________________________________
Fourth Issue
Fall 2009

NEWS

·         The Proposed Budget for 2010 will be mailed to all members before November 15th, 2009.  Members may respond in writing with any concerns. The office must receive all correspondence before December 1st to allow the Board time for review.

·         2010 Proposed Budget Review and Approval - Friday December 11th at 7:00pm-CFA Clubhouse during the regular meeting.

·         2010 Invoices will be mailed no later than December 15th. They are due and payable on January 1st, 2010 but no later than March 1st, 2010.  If not paid by March 1st a $25.00 late charge will be assessed, and collection efforts initiated.  CFA now accepts credit cards and has a payment plan.  Call the CFA Office for details.

·         The CFA Campground will close for the winter on Sunday November 15th.

·         Daylight savings time ends Sunday November 1.

·         The next meeting of the CFA Book Club is Friday, November 20 at 7:15 at the clubhouse.   The book is The Wildwater Walking Club by Claire Cook.  Call Barbara Miller at 704-847-8210 if you would like to attend.

·         Time Warner Cable (TWC) is considering providing cable and high speed internet service to our area.  If approved, installation would be complete 6-9 months later.  We’ll keep you posted!

·         A gentle reminder:  Please be considerate of others when loading and unloading your boats at the marina.  Don’t block the ramps or park where you block others from getting to the ramp.  Be ready to unload your boat when you get to the ramp, don’t wait until then to get out and undo straps, etc.  We had several instances over the summer where these simple rules were not observed causing needless hassles and confrontations.  A little common sense goes a long way!

·         A new fundraising committee has been formed to raise money for the CFA Parks area located at the site of our former tennis courts.  The initial event involving a bingo night had to be cancelled due to some legal hurdles.  If you’d like to participate or have ideas for fundraising please contact the CFA office.

·         Our community can only succeed through the continued efforts of our members.  We’ve formed a committee chaired by Noel Nicely to explore ways to improve the appearance, safety, security, and operations of our community.  The more folks get involved the more success this effort will have.  Help us maintain our hidden gem on Lake Tillery.  Please contact the office if you are interested in serving.

·         A new law banning plastic bottles from all landfills went into effect on October 1.  To comply with this law, CFA has leased a recycling dumpster which is located on the campground road near the existing trash dumpster.  The new dumpster is to be used only for recyclables (#1 and #2 plastic bottles; aluminum cans; steel food cans; empty tin & steel aerosol cans; glass bottles (clear, green and brown); newspaper/magazines; phone books; office paper; and (broken down/flattened) non-waxed cardboard.  Items forbidden in the recycling dumpster include plastic bags; ice cream containers; foam egg cartons; CDs/DVDs; Styrofoam; paper towels, napkins, cups or plates; toys; electronics or batteries; light bulbs; coat hangers; furniture; garden tools or waste; and motor oil/ hydraulic   fluid/ anti-freeze bottles.  For more information on the new law and banned materials, check here:  http://www.wastenotnc.org/swhome/landfillbans.asp

·         CFA Storage Area:  CFA provides a storage area for watercraft, trailers, campers, etc.  CFA is not responsible for any damages or theft of items placed in this area.  Member owners in good standing are limited to one numbered space in the storage area on a first come, first served basis.  Spaces are not reserved and there is currently no charge for storage.  You must register yearly and provide the space number and description of items stored to the office if you are storing anything in the area.  All occupied spaces and their contents must be registered with the office by January 1, 2010.  Any items not registered by that date will be removed at the owner’s expense or sold as abandoned property if ownership cannot be determined.

·         Scott Broadway resigned his position as Maintenance Supervisor to pursue other opportunities.  We wish Scott the best of luck in his future endeavors.  Larry Beachum was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor, and Bill Ingram was hired from 98 applicants for Maintenance on September 7th.  Welcome, Bill!

·         The 2010 CFA Budget Committee projects CFA could save up to $2000 per year in postage and printing costs if we stop mailing hard copy newsletters to everybody and send them out by electronic means instead.  We’ve been trying to transition to this for several years and now feel it’s time.   The next newsletter in early winter 2010 will be printed and mailed by request only.  If you’d like to continue to receive this newsletter by mail contact the office.  If you wish to receive by email provide your email address to the office at carolinaforest@embarqmail.com.  If you don’t respond, you won’t receive this newsletter.  The newsletter will also be posted on the CFA website, http://carolinaforestinc.com and a few hard copies will be available in the office.
