CFA President's Report

May 14, 2010

1.  On or after May 1, 2010 any person under the age of 26 must successfully complete a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved boating education course before operating any vessel in NC propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater.

  •        The NASBLA course is offered free at different sites in Montgomery, Anson      and Stanly counties.
  •        Also offered online for a $29.50 or higher fee.

If we have 10 or more CFA residents interested in taking the Boating Education class, we may be able to schedule a free course offering at CFA.  If you are interested please contact the office as soon as possible @ 910-572-2848 or by email.

2.   As a reminder, no one under 14 years old may operate a PWC (jet ski) in North Carolina waters.  A person at least 14 years old but less than 16 years old, may operate a PWC if: they are riding with a person who is at least 18 who occupies the PWC and is in compliance with G.S. 75A-16.2; or the youth has first successfully completed an approved boating safety education course (proof of age and safety course completion must be carried by the youth during operation of the PWC.)  It is unlawful for the owner of a PWC to knowingly allow a person under the age of 16 to operate a PWC unless they have first completed an approved boating safety education course.

3.   We have a very important election coming up.  Three of the existing five Directors could be replaced as a result of this election, which means the leadership of CFA could undergo significant changes.  There are seven candidates seeking three CFA Director positions.  Please ensure you vote in person at the Saturday, June 5th Election Meeting, or submit/mail your absentee ballot to the CFA Office before closing on Friday, June 4th.  Good luck to the candidates, and thanks for taking an interest in our community.

5.   The floors in the clubhouse basement bathrooms have been commercially ground to bare concrete, sealed with a moisture barrier, and have a commercial surface warranted for 10 years installed.

6.   The clubhouse and pool water systems have been modified to include a state-mandated cross connection and backflow prevention device, a customer shut-off valve, a pressure reducer and an expansion tank.  The clubhouse septic system was pumped, inspected, and copper sulphate root killer introduced.

7.   The club house and boat marina camera system has been installed and integrated with the Lake in the Pines cameras.
