1. Time Warner Cable contacted me expressing an
interest in providing service within CFA.
I gave a TWC design guy and a construction guy a tour of all populated
areas within CFA, Lake in the Pines and the
campground. They forwarded their
information and opinions to their marketing folks for an internal decision as
to whether or not to pursue this business venture. Since Windemere Point has signed up, TWC has
decided to run there services down River
Road to CFA, if we sign a non-exclusive contract
with them. If all of the details can be
worked out, TWC telephone pole line installation could begin next spring. Individual property lines will be run
underground.
2.Since
the 1st of October, a new NC law bans #1 and #2 bottles from being
thrown in land fills anywhere in the state.MontgomeryCounty is quickly
planning to develop a single stream recycling program to meet minimum state
recycling requirements. Carolina Forest
has ordered an additional dumpster that will be used for recycling plastic
bottles, aluminum cans, glass bottles, newspapers, phone books and other paper
products.This CFA Recycle dumpster will
be available at the CFA dumpster within a few days.PLEASE HELP PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT BY
RECYCLING.
3. The
REMC electric company has contracted for roadside clearing of brush under all
aerial electric wires within CFA. They
will be working within CFA, and periodically detouring traffic for several more
weeks. We are negotiating the
possibility of hiring the same contractor to clear some of our roadsides that
are not under power lines.
4.A
Community Improvement Committee is being formed to improve living conditions within
CFA.Please consider volunteering for
this community minded activity.
5.The
campground bath house is undergoing extensive modernization and building code
infraction corrections.This phase of
improvement should be complete before the campground shuts down for the winter
on November 15th.
6. The
NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources has recently identified a
few non-native plant growths in LakeTillery. Hydrilla is the largest potential problem,
followed by a floating green and yellow tubular that grows floating tentacles. Both of these species are very evident at our
old boat landing. All non-native aquatic
plants may be removed by individuals, with no fear of retribution. Removal of native lake grasses will result in
punishment. Progress Energy funded 1000 Carp
that were released into LakeTillery at our old boat
landing yesterday. These 2 pound fish
thrive on aquatic plants, and eat 5 times their weight every day. They do not eat fish worms nor are they
attracted to fishing lures. It is
expected that these 996 (4 died during delivery from the truck) Carp will be
able to rid LakeTillery of Hydrilla in 2 to 3 years. Our pond in Lake
in the Pines is also infested. Neither
the State nor Progress Energy will pay for Carp to be put in that pond because
it is on private property. We are going
to purchase and install 30 Carp which should be adequate to clean it up in 2 to
3 years.
7. Today
I met with our water company representative who explained to me the State will
soon begin enforcing a new backflow prevention law. As a minimum, CFA will need to install a
State approved pressure reducing backflow device at our pool/clubhouse and
maintenance shed. The biggest obstacle
is that a State approved inspector must test the device annually. There are currently no inspectors located in MontgomeryCounty. This law also applies to anyone with a pool or
in ground irrigation system.
